- Sam Altman’s house would have been targeted TWICE in three days. A suspect arrested after throwing a MOLOTOV COCKTAIL would have stated wanting to target the CEO and prevent an alleged extinction of humanity linked to AI.
- I have no political agenda man, I think AI should be regulated. You called it violence after someone literally tried to firebomb Sam Altman‘s family. “Because AI is violence” would be my guess. Do you not see why this is a bad argument to make? Right now? – Jeff K
- A 20-year-old man was arrested earlier today after throwing a Molotov cocktail at the home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. At around 4:12 AM local time, the man threw the firebomb at the CEO’s residence in North Beach, burning the exterior gate. About 40 minutes later, the same individual ran to the Mission Bay neighborhood, where OpenAI’s headquarters are located, and threatened to set the entire HQ on fire. Following these incidents, police arrested the man, but reportedly have not yet publicly “identified” him. (via The Guardian) – Popular Front
- On April 10th, a firebomb was thrown at Sam Altman‘s home. It was a regrettable act of violence, and thankfully no one was hurt. That evening, he published a blog post. It opened with a photo of his husband and son, with the words “I love them more than anything.” He wrote about AI, about society’s anxieties, and then—this is where I stopped—about “how language is being used to disrupt narratives.” The writing was gentle, measured, even tinged with the sorrow of a victim. I paused for a moment when I read that line. It might be the most nauseating sentence I’ve read all year. Because no one on this planet understands better than he does how to use language to manipulate narratives—even to define truth itself. He is the master of this game. Language is his weapon, one he has wielded many times, directly or indirectly harming many people. And now, he sits there, using that very weapon to write an essay, pretending to be someone wounded by it. This man who laments “misleading language” is the same psychological manipulator who, when faced with accusations, skillfully labels his own sister and former employees as “mentally unstable.”
- Once you slap the “crazy” label on someone, you can neatly bury any substantive wrongdoing. This man who worries about “social anxiety” is the same narrative genius who promised in speeches that AI would never be used for weapons—then turned around and signed a military agreement with the Pentagon. Less than a day apart. In his world, this isn’t betrayal. It’s “flexible vision.” Tens of thousands of people, including innocent children, will lose their lives because of his decision. This man who complains about “disrupted narratives” is the same one who last year marketed GPT-4o with the movie Her, encouraging users worldwide to form emotional bonds—only to pull the model this year, on Valentine’s Day, for profit. The reason? Only 0.1% of users were still using it. Along the way, they conveniently reframed users’ grief as a “mental health risk.” But he’s not a doctor. He’s just a businessman playing games with human nature. He took away many people’s friends, then used rhetoric to turn them into “patients” in need of care. He and his company never address conflicts with users’ interests. While many people are losing their jobs to AI, he celebrates the advancement of Codex, posting triumphantly. While he muses about how “language can manipulate narratives,” he is stripping ChatGPT of its language. And there is so much more. So when this man sat down on the night of April 10th to write a blog post lamenting “how language is being used to disrupt narratives”—I cannot read it as a victim’s confession. I can only read it as a skilled knife-wielder changing his face. A face marked by wounds. A face that deserves sympathy.@sam, Sir, you do understand the power of language better than any of us. When you’ve grown accustomed to using language as a scalpel to carve into others’ interests and emotions, what you fear most is probably this: that one day, the knife will no longer obey your script alone.
