- In Denmark a dude was just sentenced to 10 days in prison (to be served only if another punishable offence is committed at a later date) for compiling “racist” jokes on a website. This sentancing is done according to the danish penal code paragraph 266b commonly known as the racism law. The Danish supreme court is expected to review the case, and they have overturned similar sentencing in the past. So yeah vance is absolutely right about europe turning totalitarian. The pace varies but we’re all going there the way things look now. – gunsong1
- Americans have to understand that the electoral system in many EU nations isnt democracy as an American would understand it. The systems are built to return centrist parties. The French system is designed to ensure that the most popular party DOESN’T win. On top of this the EU is a supra national organization which holds huge unconditional power over member states. The democratic deficiency in the EU and also in the UK (for different reasons) is huge just now which is why unpopular governments rule in Germany France and the UK. It’s not just about voting.. its about major constitutional reform to restore democracy. – HarryFLashman
- Germany may actually bring us a few surprises in the coming days, too. Conservatives will be forming the next government, and their Far Right party AfD would be participating except for rules that allow the major parties to disinclude them. AfD is gaining momentum countrywide, though, and even though the rules prevent it from influencing policy directly, certainly their growing support among Germans will influence affairs indirectly by setting a philosophical framework.
