REPORT: Brazil’s next president will be decided in an October runoff election between the top two contenders, President Jair Bolsonaro and former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, after neither surpassed the 50% of votes needed to win the crowded race outright Sunday.

- Everybody who’s looking to Brazil as we go to the runoff election (second round), Bolsonaro remains strong everywhere in Brazil, excluding the Northeast, Minas Gerais and Pará.
- Brazil is about the size of the continental US, has 217 million inhabitants, and compulsory voting. Results of today’s election, held sensibly during the weekend, will be known within a few *hours* of polls closing. American elections are terrible by design.
