According to sources, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) referred Schiff to the DOJ after uncovering discrepancies in his mortgage documents for properties in Maryland and California. Trump blasted Schiff as a “scam artist” on Truth Social in July 2025, accusing him of lying about his primary residence to secure favorable loan terms—a potential violation of federal law.
