In a fiery CNN segment that perfectly encapsulates the left’s warped worldview (clip is above), retired U.S. District Court Judge Shira Scheindlin lambasted President Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to Chicago as “fuel to the fire.” As highlighted by conservative commentator Scott Jennings in his viral X post, Scheindlin and her ilk dismiss ongoing violence in cities like Portland as “peaceful protests,” only to cry foul when Trump enforces the law to protect federal facilities and personnel.

Jennings, a CNN contributor known for his no-nonsense takes, pointed out the absurdity: leftists either deny the violence exists or blame Trump for “causing” it by daring to respond. This double standard isn’t new—it’s the same playbook from 2020’s Portland riots, revived in 2025 as Trump cracks down on resurgent Antifa chaos. While radical leftists torch buildings, assault ICE agents, and terrorize communities, the mainstream media cheers them on as “activists.” But when Trump sends in forces to defend American sovereignty, it’s suddenly an “authoritarian provocation.” This far-left lens, where anarchy is acceptable but order is oppression, exposes the media’s bias and endangers the rule of law.

Yet, figures like Oregon Governor Tina Kotek rejected the help, insisting Portland is “doing just fine,” even as videos show rioters hurling explosives and setting fires. The Gateway Pundit reported Trump’s blistering takedown of a liberal reporter who accused him of “threatening” cities with war, with the president retorting, “That’s not war, that’s common sense.” This echoes 2020, when federal agents protected the Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse from nightly assaults, only for media to label the defense as “escalation.” Conservatives argue this hypocrisy stems from a deep-seated disdain for law enforcement and American institutions. During the 2020 BLM-Antifa uprisings, Portland endured over 100 nights of violence, with rioters vandalizing federal property, blinding officers with lasers, and launching Molotov cocktails.
