I Built a Self-Loading full auto Crossbow
In this video, I’ll show you how I designed and built a custom self-loading crossbow — fully inspired by my long-time interest in sport mechanics and precision design. This is not a copy of existing systems — I always aim to create my own vision, and this time I asked myself: Why not build a crossbow that doesn’t need manual loading? So I developed an electric-powered concept that uses garage-built logic and hands-on testing. It wasn’t easy — theory and real-life often don’t match — but I kept improving the design step by step. This project includes: • A motorized tension system • A fully working mechanical trigger • Real-time design changes during testing • And the satisfaction of building something from scratch This is a sports build made for curiosity, precision, and passion for engineering.
- What you’ve built here is absolutely next level. The craftsmanship, the vision, the execution… it’s rare to see all that in one project. Honestly, it’s the kind of work that makes someone stop scrolling and say ‘damn, that’s genius.’ Massive respect. Keep creating, keep inspiring!!
- Genius, madman, visionary, grownup boy? He’s all of them at once. What a pleasure to watch a master craftsman do his thing to create a new cool item we didn’t know we wanted until he invented it right before our eyes. Very cool indeed. – Russ Ward
- You, sir, are a great mechanic/machinist! I used to work as an engineer with a technician who had similar talents. I would give him some rough instructions for some complex apparatus, and within a few days he would produce exactly what was needed. What a blessing to have a guy like that….. Roy
- Did the string snap at the end? maybe need to rework the mechanism that pulls it back so that it doesn’t wear the string down. Otherwise this is pretty awesome.
- When Ching v lock down was on, out of boredom i made a simple crossbow out of 3 boards for a laminated main body and instant arrow groove. Then i welded a rebar to a plates to act as a “bow” and i screwed it in the main body ,Simple rolling nut was easy to add.I sandwiched it between 2 steel plates and a main body. All it took was couple of washers to center it .Next was pistol grip because why not? I used rubber bands and a peace of rope as a main source of power. I was bored so i forged my own bodkin arrows out of rebar and i used tapered wooden dovel rod as body and duct tape as fletchings .My problem like yours is arrow heads were too heavy for as well whimpy 20kg (around 40 pounds?)of draw weight,Effective range was 20m ,after that you would need to lob arrows . Mine were 25-30g each. Ma favorite part about that crossbow was the fact that if you were standing sideways you could see arrow traveling with naked eye,as it spins in air and strikes the wood. For some reason pyramid bodkin design arrowhead would go 1 cm deep into wood and most of the time i used pliers to pull them out. Fun times in dark year of 2020.
- The mechanical assembly and execution is really nice. For practical uses, as a polished product, weight should be significantly cut. This would mean a complete redesign. The highest form factor and weight cut would be an integrating a custom reloading mechanism (maybe with high torque robotics or drone brushless motors). Kevlar string would be a nice addition and ensuring the latch does not cut into it. Snapping string can lead to serious injuries. Keep up the good work
- What if, instead of a knock, you put a divot into the center of the bolt’s rear surface and affixed a driving pin/cone to the string. I think it might work even better to allow spin, eliminate a lot of wear on the string and make it much easier to produce the bolts. Awesome video! – Kevin Keller
