Some teens are so tormented that they had their fingernails pulled out and wounds tortured with lemon juice. According to Dickeson, these extreme forms of torture are used as a method of control by the cartels and traffickers. “They’re not going to fight back if they chain their victims to a radiator, beat them up frequently, or drug them,” he said.
