Farmers accelerated their rebellion against the EU and the green agenda, bringing their fury right to the EU’s doorstep in mostly peaceful protests. They tore down a statue they believed to be of an EU founder and used over a thousand tractors to block key routes in the city, carrying banners stating “no farmers, no food.” These mass blockades left many supermarket shelves in Belgium and France nearly empty. French police arrested nearly 100 farmers who converged on a food distribution hub in Paris, encircling the capital to prevent foreign imports from reaching supermarkets.

The protests were sparked by the EU attacking farmers’ livelihoods through banning fertilizers, imposing emissions limits in the name of climate change, out-of-control energy prices, tax hikes, inflation, and mandates that forced farmers not to farm. The importation of cheap Ukrainian grain products flooded the market, driving down prices and leaving European farmers unable to sell their produce at a fair price. The EU’s policies have made it impossible for domestic production to compete with the influx of agricultural goods from Ukraine, effectively cornering the wheat production industry.

The protesters themselves expressed intense frustration with these conditions. Meanwhile, as these protests unfolded, EU leaders met but ignored the farmers’ concerns, instead allocating 50 billion euros in aid to Ukraine. This neglect and the suggestion by French President Macron that giving more power to the EU is the solution only added to the farmers’ grievances.

The overarching agenda appears to be to make farming unaffordable, destroy livelihoods, bankrupt the industry, and displace farmers from their land, aiming to consolidate farming into corporate mega-farms. This mirrors trends seen in China, where small and medium-sized farms are being replaced by large corporate entities due to an inability to comply with endless regulations.
