A pro-life father of 11, Paul Vaughn, was convicted for praying and singing hymns at a Tennessee abortion facility, targeted by the DOJ.
Vaughn, along with five other pro-lifers, was charged with felonies under the FACE Act and for engaging in a “conspiracy against rights.”
After the verdict, Vaughn and his co-defendants sang hymns outside the courthouse, and his attorney announced plans to appeal.
Vaughn faces up to 11 years in prison and $260,000 in fines if the appeal in the 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals fails.
The Thomas More Society criticized the Biden administration’s actions as an attempt to punish pro-life individuals and people of faith.
The DOJ has been criticized for its approach to arresting and prosecuting peaceful pro-life advocates, with Vaughn’s case seen as part of a disturbing pattern.
Evidence presented showed Vaughn and others peacefully praying and singing outside an abortion facility in March 2021, with no arrests made during the protest.
Charges were unsealed in October 2022, accusing Vaughn and fellow protesters of using “force and physical obstruction” against clinic employees and patients.
The FBI raided Vaughn’s home, leading to his arrest, as part of a broader legal action against pro-lifers following the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson decision.
Despite no reports of injury or property damage, the DOJ portrayed Vaughn negatively, claiming clinic employees were “trapped” during the protest.
Video evidence contradicted DOJ claims, showing clear passage in the hallway, and one protester’s testimony was used against Vaughn.

The DOJ’s October 2022 release about the charges alleges that “Gallagher utilized social media to promote a series of anti-abortion events scheduled for March 4-7, 2021, in the Nashville area. Other co-conspirators then utilized Facebook to coordinate travel and logistics and to identify other participants for the blockade.”

“In his social media post, Gallagher referred to the blockade as a ‘rescue,’” the Justice Department release says. “Boyd also began a Facebook livestream broadcast of the clinic blockade at 7:45 a.m. on March 5, 2021. This livestream broadcast was titled, in part, ‘Mt. Juliet, TN Rescue March 5, 2021,’ and livestreamed the blockade event as his co-conspirators and others blocked the clinic’s entry doors and prevented a patient and an employee from entering.” – Daily Signal
