Trump Calls Out EU’s Windmill Fiasco: America’s Energy Dominance vs. Europe’s Green Nightmare

In a candid moment captured in a viral clip shared on X, President Donald Trump didn’t mince words when addressing European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen about the pitfalls of wind energy. “It’s a horrible thing…the whole thing is a Con Job,” Trump declared, his face animated as von der Leyen’s expression shifted uncomfortably.

This exchange, highlighting Trump’s unfiltered critique, exemplifies his longstanding policy against windmills and broader energy strategy that prioritizes American fossil fuels, nuclear power, and energy independence over what he views as unreliable “green” scams. As Europe grapples with soaring energy costs, blackouts, and dependency on foreign adversaries like Russia and China, Trump’s approach stands in stark contrast, proving prescient in his warnings to European leaders and media. Trump’s energy policy has been consistent: drill, baby, drill, while dismantling subsidies and regulations favoring intermittent sources like wind and solar. Upon taking office for his second term, Trump issued an executive order halting new and existing wind energy projects, citing their inefficiency, environmental harm, and economic burden.

He argued that windmills are “the most expensive” form of energy, driving up costs for Americans and killing wildlife, including birds and whales. In a Mar-a-Lago press conference, Trump vowed to end new windmill production, calling them a “blight on our beautiful plains” and “bullsh*t.” His administration moved swiftly to dismantle “regulatory favoritism” for wind and solar, introducing a new review process to prioritize reliable energy sources. Energy Secretary Chris Wright echoed this, dodging critics by emphasizing wind power’s unreliability and high costs, while pushing for oil, gas, and nuclear to ensure American dominance. This policy shift yielded immediate results. Trump’s executive order forced New Jersey to cancel its first offshore wind farm, saving taxpayers from what critics called a boondoggle reliant on rushed science.
Republicans in Congress sought to end taxpayer funding for such “green energy boondoggles,” arguing they destroy agricultural lands and fail to deliver. Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” signed in July 2025, permanently extended tax breaks from his 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, while slashing incentives for renewables, paving the way for more oil and gas production. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum reinforced this, stating wind and solar “do not run America,” and highlighted the need for fossil fuels to power the nation reliably. Trump’s vision: The U.S. can “supply the whole world with energy,” slashing gas prices and lifting LNG export pauses to boost exports.  Continued below this next clip
President Trump posted this legendary clip from the Paramount+ hit show Landman, where Tommy Norris schools a lawyer on why oil is essential and windmills are costly and horrible for the environment.

In contrast, the European Union’s green agenda has been a catastrophic failure, riddled with energy shortages, skyrocketing prices, and geopolitical vulnerabilities—issues Trump has repeatedly called out. The EU’s heavy reliance on wind and solar, mandated by the Paris Climate Accord and aggressive net-zero targets, has left the continent vulnerable to weather whims and foreign manipulation. Power prices soared as wind generation slumped, forcing reliance on expensive fossil fuels and imports from Russia, exposing Europe’s “energy mess.” Critics like Victoria Coates blasted Europe’s “failing climate crusade,” which empowered Vladimir Putin by increasing dependence on Russian gas. The Wall Street Journal editorial board slammed Western climate policies for empowering dictators and driving up prices, a direct result of ditching reliable energy.

Trump’s pullout from the Paris Agreement in 2017 was vindicated as Europe’s bogus schemes collapsed, with coal usage rising despite green pledges. The EU’s industrial degression, fueled by these policies, has geopolitical consequences, benefiting China while crippling Europe. The bloc remains dependent on Chinese raw materials for wind turbines, undermining its own economy. Blackouts loom as grids strain under intermittent power, a “terrifying warning” for the U.S. that Trump averted. Victor Davis Hanson noted Europe’s refusal to develop its own reserves, making it an importer beholden to adversaries.

Trump’s pro-U.S. natural gas stance could end this dependence, offering a path to independence. Trump hasn’t hesitated to rub this in to European leaders and media. In his meeting with von der Leyen, he labeled windmills a “scam,” predicting Europe’s green push would fail—as it has. Upon arriving in Europe, Trump torched the continent for “suicide by open borders” and wind energy obsession, marring natural beauty and economy. He demanded Scotland nix wind turbines near his golf resort years ago, foreshadowing his global critique. In rallies and interviews, Trump mocked EU policies, saying they’ve led to “chaos” and high costs, while U.S. energy booms. He told media outlets that Europe’s energy crunch is a lesson ignored, with climate central planning causing failure. Even von der Leyen admitted Trump was “right” on China trade issues tied to wind tech, a rare concession. Trump’s vindication came full circle in 2023, as Europe’s green agenda imploded amid the Ukraine crisis, proving his warnings accurate.

While Democrats sued to protect wind projects, Trump’s policies saved whales and wallets. As Europe faces another harsh winter, Trump’s message to leaders rings true: Ditch the con job, embrace real energy.
