David Cifaldi was hiking Montana’s highest peak with two friends when he slipped and impaled himself on his trekking pole. The pole miraculously missed major organs, but the pole protruded awkwardly from his side. David was worried about the high cost of an airlift rescue so he decided to hike 10 miles down to a trailhead for 6.5 hours with the pole still lodged in his side.
