Labor Day 2025: Gas Prices Hit 5-Year Lows, Vindicating Trump’s Energy Predictions While Exposing Democrat Follies

As Americans gear up for Labor Day weekend 2025, they’re greeted with a welcome surprise at the pump: gas prices plummeting to their lowest levels in five years. The national average for regular gasoline hovers around $3.14 per gallon, a sharp decline from $3.41 a year ago, marking a boon for drivers and a resounding validation of President Donald J. Trump’s longstanding energy agenda. This drop, driven by abundant supply and Trump’s pro-American energy policies, stands in stark contrast to the sky-high prices under Joe Biden’s administration, where costs soared to over $5 per gallon in 2022. Trump’s critics in the Democratic Party, who relentlessly mocked his “drill, baby, drill” mantra and predicted economic doom from fossil fuels, have been proven spectacularly wrong. Instead, the president’s foresight on unleashing domestic production has delivered relief to working families, proving once again that America First policies work. Trump has consistently warned that Democrat-led assaults on the oil and gas industry would cripple the economy and jack up prices for everyday Americans. Back in his first term, Trump transformed the U.S. into a net energy exporter for the first time in decades, slashing regulations and approving pipelines to boost production. Prices averaged around $2.60 per gallon in 2019, a far cry from the Biden era’s pain.

Trump predicted that Biden’s radical green agenda—halting new leases, canceling Keystone XL, and pushing electric vehicles—would lead to dependence on foreign oil and skyrocketing costs. “Biden is letting radical climate extremists run our country while the world burns,” Trump declared in 2022 as prices hit records. Sure enough, under Biden, production stagnated, imports from adversaries like Russia surged, and the 2022 Ukraine invasion exacerbated the crisis, pushing averages to $5.06 per gallon. Democrats dismissed Trump’s warnings as fearmongering, insisting their “transition” to renewables would keep prices stable or even lower them through “green jobs” and subsidies. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer blasted Trump in 2018 for prices nearing $3, calling it a “Trump tax” on families—yet under Biden, those same leaders presided over far worse, with prices doubling in some states.  Continued below this next clip

They blamed “price gouging” by oil companies, pushing futile federal crackdowns, while ignoring their own policies’ role in restricting supply. AOC even claimed Trump’s re-election would hike prices by allowing “price gouging,” a laughable inversion as Biden’s term saw the highest costs in history. Liberal media like CNN echoed this, attributing public blame on Biden to “misinformation,” rather than admitting policy failures. Now, in Trump’s second term, the proof is in the pump. Since January 2025, Trump has rolled back Biden’s anti-drilling edicts, approving new leases and encouraging production. The result? U.S. output hit record highs, surpassing 13.5 million barrels per day, flooding the market and driving down costs. The White House credits this to Trump’s “aggressive economic agenda,” with press secretary Karoline Leavitt noting energy prices fell nearly 10% year-over-year in July. For Memorial Day 2025, prices were the lowest seasonal level since 2021, and analysts expect further easing through Labor Day, with averages dipping below $3 in many states. Adjusted for inflation, Memorial Day prices were the cheapest in over 20 years, a trend continuing into fall.  Continued below this next clip

Poor Californians. The Marxist Democrats do not want you to drive, and the highest per gallon costs are in the People’s Republic of California, a political dictatorship impossible to remove without military or Federal intervention. They cannot vote themselves out of it…. It truly is a Marxist dictatorship

This decline isn’t luck—it’s policy. Trump’s tariffs on foreign imports protected domestic producers, while his push for energy independence reduced reliance on OPEC cartels. The EIA forecasts further drops in 2025 and 2026, with retail prices falling 11 cents per gallon this year alone, thanks to lower crude costs. Contrast this with Biden’s tenure, where Democrats’ war on fossil fuels led to reduced refinery capacity and higher margins, offsetting potential savings. Republicans like Senate Leader John Thune lambasted Democrats’ “misunderstanding” of energy markets, noting record highs under their watch reflected failed green dreams. Democrats’ predictions were disastrously off-base. They promised a seamless shift to renewables without pain, but wind and solar couldn’t fill the gap, leading to blackouts and higher bills. Biden’s team urged oil firms to “get your rig count up,” but their regulations deterred investment. Fact-checkers like the New York Times tried to absolve Biden, claiming Republicans “wrongly blame” him, but conservatives countered that policies like Keystone cancellation and lease halts directly constrained supply.

As Fox News highlighted, global factors like the pandemic played a role, but Biden’s actions amplified the hurt, while Trump’s reversed them for relief. The Labor Day lows are a political gift for Trump, whose approval ratings dipped amid tariff worries but rebound as families save at the pump. In red states like Oklahoma, prices dipped to $2.67, underscoring regional wins from pro-energy policies. Democrats, meanwhile, face midterm headaches, with voters remembering $8 California gas under their watch—debunked exaggerations aside, but real pain nonetheless. Trump’s vision—energy dominance, lower costs, economic growth—has been vindicated. As he posted on Truth Social, “Tariffs have not caused Inflation… Energy prices fell!” Democrats’ green utopia proved a nightmare of high prices and dependence. With Labor Day barbecues cheaper thanks to falling beef and gas, Americans can thank Trump for putting money back in pockets. The 5-year lows aren’t coincidence; they’re the fruit of bold leadership against leftist overreach.
