Republican-Led States Rally National Guard to Bolster Trump’s Bold Crackdown on DC Crime

In a significant show of solidarity with President Donald Trump’s aggressive push to restore law and order in the nation’s capital, three Republican-controlled states—West Virginia, South Carolina, and Ohio—have announced the deployment of hundreds of National Guard troops to Washington, D.C. This move comes as Trump escalates his federal intervention to combat what he describes as rampant crime and homelessness plaguing the city, marking a pivotal moment in his administration’s “Making D.C. Safe and Beautiful” initiative. The deployments, requested by the Trump administration and the Pentagon, underscore a united conservative front against urban decay in Democrat-run Washington, where local leadership has long been criticized for soft-on-crime policies. The announcements from the governors highlight a commitment to supporting Trump’s vision of a secure and pristine capital.
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey, a staunch Trump ally, revealed that his state would send between 300 and 400 skilled National Guard personnel. “West Virginia is proud to stand with President Trump in his effort to restore pride and beauty to our nation’s capital,” Morrisey stated, emphasizing the troops’ role in reflecting a “shared commitment to a strong and secure America.” These guardsmen are expected to assist in tasks such as presence patrols, added security, and crowd control at key sites like the National Mall and Union Station, bolstering the existing federal presence. South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster followed suit, pledging 200 National Guard troops to the effort. McMaster noted that the deployment was at the Pentagon’s direct request and stressed flexibility in case of emergencies back home, such as hurricanes.  Continued after this next clip
Don’t believe the fake news hype. The normal people of DC love the safety and the new Trump administration

“Our National Guard will work to assist President Trump’s mission, and should a hurricane or natural disaster threaten our state, they can and will be immediately recalled home to respond,” he said. This pragmatic approach ensures that while aiding the federal crackdown, state priorities remain protected—a hallmark of conservative governance that balances national support with local needs. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine rounded out the trio, committing 150 military police troops to arrive in the coming days. DeWine described the mission as one focused on “presence patrols and serving as added security,” aligning with Trump’s goal of deterring crime through visible strength.

The troops from all three states will be federally funded, allowing Republican leaders to contribute without straining state budgets, and some may be armed to provide robust support in protecting federal assets and creating a safer environment for law enforcement operations. This interstate assistance arrives amid Trump’s unprecedented federal takeover of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), invoked under the District of Columbia Home Rule Act on August 11, 2025. For up to 30 days—potentially extendable by Congress—Trump has placed the MPD under direct federal control, deploying approximately 800 D.C. National Guard members to patrol high-profile areas. The president declared a public safety emergency, citing the city government’s “failure to maintain public order” as a hindrance to efficient federal operations.  Continued below this next clip

Critics from the left, including D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, have decried the move as “unsettling and unprecedented,” but Trump and his supporters argue it’s a necessary response to years of liberal policies that have emboldened criminals. The crackdown has already yielded impressive results, demonstrating the effectiveness of Trump’s no-nonsense approach. Since the operation began on August 7, federal agents and local police under federal oversight have made over 240 arrests, including two homicide suspects, 17 suspected drug traffickers, 39 illegal gun offenders, and two sexual predators.

On a single night, 52 arrests were recorded, with 28 involving illegal immigrants, and three guns were seized. Overall, 38 firearms have been removed from the streets, disrupting gang activities and violent offenders. White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller hailed the efforts as “breathtaking,” noting, “We have seen a record number of violent offenders, bad guys, gang members and all kinds of threats to public safety removed off the streets as well as their illegal weapons that they’ve been using to terrorize the citizens of this city.” Beyond crime, the initiative addresses homelessness, with over 100 encampments cleared, including 25 in one day, without major incidents.

Trump has framed this as “Liberation Day in D.C.,” vowing to “take our capital back” from the chaos fostered under Democratic control. He has repeatedly blasted the city’s leadership for what he calls manipulated crime statistics, disputing claims that violent crime is at a 30-year low. According to Trump, “We have a capital that’s very unsafe. … Something’s out of control. But we’re going to put it in control very quickly.” Conservative voices have rallied behind the president, viewing the state deployments as a patriotic duty. West Virginia Major General Jim Seward praised the alignment with “our values of service and dedication to our communities,” calling the National Guard an “invaluable partner” in the undertaking.  Continued below this next clip

President Trump has now made the sidewalks of DC “peaceful, clean, and refreshing.” This Trump voter nails it.

This sentiment echoes broader Republican frustration with blue-city crime waves, where progressive policies like defunding the police and lenient prosecutions have allowed lawlessness to flourish. By contrast, Trump’s strategy employs a multi-agency surge, including FBI, DEA, and now out-of-state Guard support, to overwhelm criminal elements and restore normalcy. Opposition has emerged from predictable quarters, with protests in D.C. featuring banners like “No fascist takeover of D.C.” and signs decrying a “military occupation.” Mayor Bowser, a Democrat, labeled the deployment of American troops on U.S. soil as “#UnAmerican,” while protesters like Morgan Taylor expressed disbelief, saying, “I can’t believe that this is happening in this country at this time.”

However, these criticisms ring hollow to conservatives, who point out that local officials have been compelled to cooperate under federal law, and the intervention is temporary, aimed at protecting residents and federal workers alike. The involvement of Republican states amplifies Trump’s authority over D.C., a district without full statehood and subject to congressional oversight—a status conservatives often highlight as justification for federal intervention when local governance fails. With troops from Ohio, South Carolina, and West Virginia joining the fray, the total Guard presence could swell significantly, providing a deterrent force that local Democrats have been unwilling or unable to muster. Looking ahead, this collaboration sets a precedent for future conservative-led efforts to reclaim American cities from crime and disorder.

If successful, it could inspire similar actions in other troubled urban areas, fulfilling Trump’s campaign promises to prioritize public safety. As Attorney General Pam Bondi oversees the operation, the message is clear: under Republican leadership, law and order will prevail, and the nation’s capital will once again symbolize strength and security. This development not only reinforces Trump’s agenda but also showcases the unity among red states in defending American values against liberal mismanagement. As the troops arrive, D.C. residents can expect a safer environment, free from the fear that has gripped the city for too long.

  • Wall Street Apes’ post (from clip above_ – here’s the transcript:  This woman worked with a community leader in Washington DC, here’s what she has to say about Trump’s DC cleanup “Do you not understand that this is what the residents want? I’m not talking about the bougie upper-echelon folks or the bougie Black people living in their gated communities with their new builds. I’m talking about the everyday grandmothers who are dealing with real struggles in their neighborhoods. These grandmothers have to clean up after homeless people urinating and defecating on their steps. They don’t feel safe walking in their own communities, where gangs and drug dealers—dope boys—are just standing around the corner. This is the reality they face, and this is what they want addressed. I remember, about five years ago, working with a community leader when someone had just been shot. I can still hear her praying, saying, “Crystal, we’re gonna have to invoke the National Guard.” At the time, that idea felt so foreign to me. But now, I understand. These people feel helpless in the face of these challenges. I’m so glad that President Trump cares about them—about the everyday grandmothers, not just the privileged few in their isolated communities. These residents want safety and solutions, and they deserve to be heard.”
