The adoption of BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (Common Era) as replacements for the traditional BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini, meaning “in the year of our Lord”) is nothing short of a calculated assault on Christianity

The adoption of BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (Common Era) as replacements for the traditional BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini, meaning “in the year of our Lord”) is nothing short of a calculated assault on Christianity, orchestrated by secularists, leftists, and those who harbor deep-seated animosity toward Jesus Christ and His followers. This shift, which keeps the same year numbering rooted in Christ’s birth but strips away any explicit reference to Him, is a sneaky way to secularize history and erase the foundational role of Christianity in Western civilization. Conservative Christians rightly view it as yet another move in a long line of cultural erasures—similar to removing crosses from public spaces or banning prayer in schools—pushed by anti-Christian forces who detest the truth that time itself is divided by the arrival of our Savior. From a right-wing Christian perspective, this change didn’t happen in a vacuum; it’s part of a broader agenda to marginalize faith and promote godless inclusivity. As noted in conservative outlets, efforts to impose BCE/CE in education and media are driven by those who want to “write out Christianity” from public discourse, replacing sacred terms with neutral ones that pretend history isn’t centered on Christ.

This is evident in battles over school curricula, where leftist educators and activists have tried to banish BC/AD to avoid “offending” non-Christians, but really to diminish the Gospel’s influence. In Texas, for instance, conservatives on the State Board of Education fought back against proposals to eliminate BC/AD, recognizing it as an anti-Christian ploy to politicize education and scrub Jesus from textbooks. Similarly, in Kentucky, religious groups and ministers rallied against switching to BCE/CE, seeing it as a direct attack on Christ’s name and a victory for secular humanists who detest biblical truth. This erasure is especially insidious because it maintains the Christian calendar’s structure—year zero still approximates Jesus’s birth as calculated by early Church scholars—while denying its divine significance. Right-wing voices argue it’s a hypocritical move by atheists, Jews, Muslims, and communists who can’t stand acknowledging Christ’s centrality, even as they benefit from a system built on Him. As one conservative commentator put it, changing to BCE/CE is “exclusionary for no legitimate reason,” aimed at marginalizing Christians by tricking society into forgetting that history pivots on Jesus’s incarnation.

I like BC and AD, sounds better to me. The change is totally meaningless, as it’s not a new dating system. It’s literally still based on the exact same Christian view of dating historical events. So it’s not even secular. Thus, the only reason left is a more political motive
It’s no coincidence that this push gained steam in the late 20th century amid rising political correctness and anti-Christian sentiment, with international bodies and liberal academics leading the charge to make everything “religiously neutral”—code for anti-Christian. Conservative Christians refuse to play along, insisting on BC/AD as a testament to faith and a rejection of this woke revisionism. They see BCE/CE as blasphemous, implying a “common era” that ignores Christ’s lordship, and some even interpret it mockingly as “Before Christ Existed” to highlight the absurdity and hostility behind it. This isn’t just about dates; it’s spiritual warfare, where those who detest Christianity—be they progressive elites or non-believers—chip away at cultural foundations to promote moral relativism and idolatry. As history shows, from Nazi attempts to de-Judaize Jesus to modern efforts to wrap nativity scenes in Palestinian symbols, erasing Christ from timelines is part of a pattern to undermine the faith that built the West. In the end, true believers know that no relabeling can dethrone the King of Kings—time belongs to Him, and efforts to erase His name only prove the world’s hatred for the light He brings.

  • I want to talk a little about why this attempted erasure of the Jewish and Israelite element ‘of the greatest story ever told’ is dangerous both for Jews and Christians and how @BearGrylls
and other Christians indulging in this heresy by wrapping their nativity scenes in keffiyehs are following in the footsteps of the Nazis. This isn’t the first time people have attempted to remove the Judaism of Jesus and the history of where he was from. In the 2nd century CE a man called Marcion wanted to remove the Hebrew God from the Christian God. He taught that the Christian canon needed to eliminate Genesis, Exodus, the Psalms, Moses, King David and Isiah. Church fathers saw then the danger in removing Christianity from its anchor – something Jesus himself taught against: “Don’t misunderstand why l have come—it isn’t to cancel the laws of Moses and the warnings of the prophets,” said Jesus (Matthew 5:17). “No, I came to fulfill them and to make them all come true.” It wasn’t the only time people attempted to erase Jesus’s Judaism. It may not surprise you that the Nazis also tried it. In 1939 they founded the Institute for the Study and Elimination of Jewish Influence on German Church Life, for the purpose of “defense against all the covert Jewry and Jewish being” that had polluted the West. Founded by eleven German Protestant churches, the Institute refashioned Jesus as an Aryan persecuted by Jews. Galilee, where Jesus grew up, was in this view a region inhabited by Aryans-who were forced to convert to Judaism. In this false retelling Jesus was an Aryan martyr who was an enemy of the Jews, not a Jew surrounded by other Jews. Over the centuries Christian antisemitism has been based on the ideas that we rejected one of our own and that we killed him. They called him the King of the Jews, born in David’s city of David’s line. For centuries Jews were attacked and murdered for these reasons as well as newer libels such as the idea that Jews wanted to kill Christian babies to make our Passover matzo. Now this rewriting of history again. As the Rev Bruce Thompson, who has written a history of Christian antisemitism writes, ‘ we, as Christians, can’t have our Christmas cake and eat it. Either Jesus was a Jew or he wasn’t. The whole premise of Christianity is that Jesus was a Jew, his life and teaching is utterly meaningless otherwise, the New Testament, the theology of centuries pointless if he were a Gentile; yet his Jewishness has been repudiated by some throughout the history of the Church and is once again denied by a number of Christians today.’ The Rev hits the nail on the head when he adds (in his blog below): ‘It has become fashionable to wrap the baby doll representing Jesus in a Palestinian keffiyeh; it is claimed that Jesus was born in ‘occupied Palestine’. All of this is historically inept, but it also adds to the increasing hostility Jews are facing around the world. Having witnessed where Christian hatred over the claim that Jews killed the Son of God has led, we are now invited to consider that Jews are killing him all over again; only this time he is a Palestinian, in the form of an infant no less. As we know, Jews have long been accused of killing babies, from the medieval blood libel onwards, and here the message is that a Palestinian baby, a Palestinian Christ Child is about to be killed by Jews once more. ‘The writers of the Christian gospels would not recognise such an identity, Palestine did not exist, nor did a version of the term come to be invented until a century after the crucifixion of Jesus, and decades after the gospels were written. But none of this matters of course to those who support, knowingly or unwittingly, the latest form of Jew-hatred.’ – Nicole L
