Federal Crackdown: Arresting Business Owners for Hiring Undocumented Workers

In a bold move signaling the Trump administration’s intensified immigration enforcement, federal agents raided El Taco Loko, a popular taco shop in west Phoenix, Arizona, leading to the arrest of its owner, Blademir Angulo. A viral video clip shared on X by journalist Eric Daugherty captures the scene: locked doors at the restaurant near 67th Avenue and Indian School Road, an empty dining area, and agents detaining workers from the food truck at 55th Avenue and Baseline. The raid extended to Angulo’s home in Laveen, where federal vehicles swarmed the property.
This July 2025 incident highlights a shift toward holding employers accountable, not just deporting workers.
According to court documents, 42-year-old Angulo faces four federal charges: Alien in Possession of a Firearm, Harboring Illegal Aliens, Improper Entry by an Alien, and a Pattern and Practice of Knowingly Employing Unauthorized Aliens. Prosecutors allege he knowingly transported, employed, and sheltered 12 Mexican nationals without legal status, paying them cash and housing them in RVs and trailers on his properties. Angulo, himself a Mexican national, admitted awareness of the illegality but denied smuggling fees; however, one employee claimed owing him $12,000 for entry into the U.S. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison and deportation. His court appearance is set for July 18.
This case aligns with warnings from Border Czar Tom Homan, who stated in congressional testimony that harboring undocumented workers is a felony with consequences.
Homan emphasized continued raids on farms, hotels, and businesses, saying, “It’s illegal to knowingly hire an illegal alien.”

ICE’s IMAGE program encourages compliance, but non-participants risk enforcement. The administration’s “America First” agenda targets employers exploiting cheap labor, undercutting American wages and legitimate businesses. Reactions on X exploded, with users praising the accountability. One post noted, “It’s about Freaking Time ICE start arresting the business owners who are hiring illegals but also I hope these businesses get charged for paying slave wages too!”
Another shared a personal story: “Its about time. I had an employer many decades ago who paid the fee to have illegals brought in, then made them pay him back.”
Calls for broader action included, “Arrest the corporate employers too.” Some questioned selectivity, like why a cannabis farm owner donating to California Gov. Newsom hasn’t faced charges.
This isn’t isolated. Federal authorities have arrested owners in several 2025 cases. In February, owners of Fresnos Bakery in Texas were charged with harboring undocumented workers after a raid detained eight employees. That same month, a San Diego bakery owner and manager were sentenced for employing illegal workers.
Two companies admitted to hiring undocumented aliens, each forfeiting $2 million.

In June, the general manager of San Diego Powder & Protective Coatings pleaded guilty to a pattern of hiring unauthorized workers.
A Southern California business was accused of harboring and providing fake documents in March.
However, not all raids result in owner arrests. A Syracuse University report notes few criminal prosecutions for I-9 violations during Trump’s first term, with raids often targeting workers.
In California, garment factories and restaurants face closures, but owners sometimes evade charges via plausible deniability on fraudulent IDs.
Critics argue this inconsistency protects big donors or industries. X users echo frustrations: “The problem with immediately arresting these business owners is that illegals often present fraudulent ID… but to prove in court they knew in advance is difficult.”
Another: “Apparently the business owners are being cited and will have to appear in a federal court. They can be fined from $3K to $500K.”
ICE raids in Washington, Houston, and D.C. have netted workers, but owner prosecutions remain selective.
This Arizona arrest could deter illegal hiring, boosting American jobs. As one X post urged, “ENFORCE THE LAW.”
With DHS reporting progress in 100 days, more owner arrests may follow.
