- Tim, an illegal immigrant stole my father-in-law‘s identity. He stole his Social Security number address everything, we only found out when he received a W-2 in the mail for this person who was obviously not him. When he contacted the government about it… They told him there’s nothing we can do and gave him a new Social Security number with an extra letter at the end and continued to allow this individual to use my father-in-law’s information fraudulently to work here in the United States, and since he was paying taxes they didn’t care. There was never any investigation. There was never any arrest. This person is still working under my father-in-law‘s name and Social Security number. I don’t understand how things like this are allowed to happen in America. It’s madness.

- I’m an investigator. Everytime I get a new job, I get a background check. In that background check they run my SSN. About 25 years ago, I learned there was a Hispanic male, a little older than me, using my SSN in Texas. I went to my local Social Security office and they said, “so what?”. I asked if they could follow up with this individual. They said no. In essence, they were not going to protect my Social Security retirement/ disability because “Its not our job”. I said I didn’t expect somebody from the Gilroy, CA office to go to Texas. I expected you would elevate this claim to an enforcement arm of Social Security or IRS or Secret Service (they are an enforcement arm of the Treasury). They said, again, not my job. I got thrown out of my local SS office for, well let’s just say, unbecoming behavior.
