More than 95% of farm attacks and murders of predominantly white farmers in South Africa remain unsolved. Out of 1,402 farm attacks and murders between 2019-2022 only 66 cases have ended with convictions meaning 95% of cases are unsolved. Last July, one of the nations most prominent and controversial political figures Julius Malema held a rally chanting “Kill the Boer” to a crowd of 90,000 people. Malema, the head of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) political party has been whipping up hatred towards white South Africans whilst encouraging his supporters to kill them. 24 hours after Malema held his rally last July, 79 year old farmer Theo Bekker was tortured and bludgeoned to death by a gang in his home. His wife who was also tortured and forced to watch her husband die a painful death.
