🚨 HOLY SMOKES. Sec. Scott Bessent just EXPOSED Denmark’s treatment of Greenland in front of millions!
“Denmark has a TERRIBLE history with Greenland. There was FORCED sterilization until the 80s and 90s! All of a sudden, now that the US expressed an interest, there’s this new… pic.twitter.com/D3wUIsiJV1

- Denmark’s forced sterilization of Greenlandic women—exposed in the 2025 report—proves their colonial mismanagement. Over 4,500 victims, some as young as 12, were subjected to medical abuse under Danish “care.” Now Europe feigns concern? Greenland’s defense, resources, and sovereignty require American stewardship. Denmark couldn’t protect its own citizens, let alone project Arctic power against Russian subs or Chinese mineral grabs. The 1951 Thule Air Base agreement already anchors U.S. security there. Europe’s sudden moralizing is performative—they lack the capability and will to secure Greenland’s future. Strategic control isn’t optional; it’s survival.
- Note: Forced sterilization & coercive birth controlin Greenland extended into the 1980s & 1990s, though the peak of the campaign occurred in the 1960s & 1970s. An independent investigation confirmed that hundreds of Greenlandic women & girls, some as YOUNG as 12, were subjected to forced contraception—including IUD insertions, Depo-Provera injections, & sterilizations between 1960 & 1990s. Follow the money: Purpose of the campaign: The Danish authorities implemented these measures under the GUISE of CONTROLLING Greenland’s POPULATION growth, reducing the number of single mothers, & cutting public SPENDING on social services like schools & healthcare. The program disproportionately targeted Inuit women & girls, often WITHOUT their consent or knowledge, & was part of broader colonial-era social engineering efforts. Denmark officially apologized in 2025, with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen calling it “systematic discrimination” and a “dark chapter in history.” In 2026, Denmark began offering compensation of 300,000 Danish kroner (~$46,000) to victims. – Happiness

One Possibility – – – –
The decolonization movement in Greenland began to get traction in the 1960s. During WWII Hitler conquered Denmark & Greenland became a protectorate of the US. About 5,800 US troops were stationed there in WWII. Of late there is a strong movement toward Greenlandic independence. In 1951, the U.S. and Denmark signed a formal treaty — often called the Defense of Greenland Agreement — that replaced the wartime 1941 agreement and set the terms for U.S. military operations on the island within the NATO framework. Key Terms: 1.Defense Cooperation under NATO •The agreement was framed as a NATO mutual defense arrangement, where both countries agreed the U.S. would assist in defending Greenland as part of the collective security area. 2.U.S. Military Presence and Bases •The U.S. was granted the right to operate military bases and defense areas in Greenland, including building, staffing, and using them as necessary for defense purposes. 3.Free Access •U.S. forces were given free access to and movement between these defense areas anywhere in Greenland — on land, at sea, and in the air — subject to Danish consent via the agreement.
Currently there are about 200 U.S. military personnel currently stationed in Greenland. This force supports missile warning, space surveillance, and defense missions. primarily at Pituffik Space Base. There are about 150 Danish troops in Greenland. Denmark has responsibilities for the defense of Greenland. But it’s a nation of 6 million people. Defending this island of 57,000 people that is 22% the size of the USA is no small task. Denmark’s active-duty military personnel: • Approximately 17,000 active-duty personnel across the armed forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) in 2023–2025 estimates. •Army: ~10,000 •Navy: ~3,500 •Air Force: ~3,500 New York City’s police force is 33,000. In Alaska alone the US has 22,000 active-duty US service members (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines) and 4,700 National Guard and Reserve personnel. But NATO is involved since Denmark is a a member of NATO & Greenland is Danish territory, albeit a territory with domestic authority. What to do? Greenland declares independence from Denmark, which they have been working to do. After that they could enter into a Compact of Free Association (CFA) agreement with the US as a sovereign nation.
3 island sovereign island nations in the Pacific have done so: Palau, Micronesia, & the Marshall Islands. By these agreements the US assumes responsibility for their defense & has exclusive rights related to keeping the islands safe. The United States provides: •Economic assistance •Access to certain U.S. federal services •Defense and security guarantees •In return, the U.S. receives: •Exclusive military access and defense rights in their territories •Strategic presence in the western Pacific •Citizens of COFA states can live, work, and study in the U.S. without visas.
PRESIDENT TRUMP: “NATO has been dealing with us on Greenland. We need Greenland for national security very badly. If we don’t have it, we have a big hole in national security.”
