Mayor Frey’s rhetoric is a dangerous escalation—framing ICE agents as invaders instead of federal officers executing lawful warrants. Minneapolis PD has 600 officers; ICE’s 3,000-strong presence reflects historic underenforcement under Biden, not “chaos.” The real issue? Cities prioritizing performative resistance over cooperation. When mayors tell cops to fight ICE, they’re ordering civil servants to choose between duty and defiance. That’s how you get dead cops, dead bystanders, and dead trust. Federal authority isn’t optional—it’s the backbone of national security. Minneapolis’ lawsuit to block ICE is political theater, not public safety.
- The police will not fight ICE. The government officials should be doing the opposite. They should be turning criminal illegals over to ICE and working with them to target high interest individuals. They should be telling the public to show restraint and not obstruct ICE operations. They have a right to legally peacefully protest and observe from a distance. That’s not what people are doing or have been encouraged to do.
- Do they not understand the Federal Supremacy Clause? If officers follow the mayor, he’s going to get these officers arrested for obstruction and possibly treason depending on how they play it.
