James Zimmermann earned the highest marks in a blind audition process designed to remove bias from hiring. Yet the Knoxville Symphony reversed course once his identity & views became known. Zimmermann had publicly opposed DEI mandates & was previously terminated by the Nashville Symphony in 2020. Diversity quotas continue to override excellence even in elite music institutions.
DEI: Blind auditions were meant to end bias. DEI brought it back. Knoxville Symphony tossed out the top scorer to enforce ideology.

- It was never about diversity. It has always been about denying white men of opportunities for achievement and success. The longer we deny this, the better chance all native-born Americans will soon discover that they no longer have a culture or a home. – Jeff
- Blind auditions levels the playing field. Talent is talent and the blind auditions show that. There’s zero logic in undoing what makes it equal in order to force an outcome. So insane this even has to be pointed out.
- Going forward, the quality of the Knoxville symphony is in question, and, the question arises, that has been instilled in the minds of classical music lovers, is, whether it deserves support from the public anywhere. Music, especially classical music, is about MERITOCRACY!
- Things aren’t looking that great for the Nashville Symphony. Classical concerts are attracting fewer and fewer attendees and the last time I went, to hear the Mahler 10th, the performance was really lousy and the hall at least 1/2 empty.
- Knoxville. Not Bezerkely, or NY, or San Fran Sicko, or CHIraq. KNOXVILLE! Wake up America! It’s not “They’re coming for you, it’s THEYRE HERE! – EVERYWHERE!
- Starting to think we should have blind auditions for all jobs. But then women would have to go back to the kitchen. And I don’t think many would pass a blind audition for homemaker anymore. Their sandwich skills suck. So they’d be homeless. That would be really sad. But still, I think we should do it.
- DEI=DIEing for individuals and/or organizations Greatness will descend and Mediocrity will ascend. Donations will decrease and music arts dance acting groups will dry up and disappear and blow away like DUST
