Socialism ALWAYS fails! But people don’t seem to learn. Democrats’ Embrace of Socialism: A Direct Assault on American Freedom

Democrats’ Embrace of Socialism: A Direct Assault on American Freedom

In a recent post (above) libertarian journalist John Stossel highlighted a stark warning about the perils of socialism. Featuring Latin American influencer Gloria Alvarez, the video titled “Socialism’s Worst Nightmare” underscores how socialist policies inevitably lead to failure, yet people repeatedly dismiss the risks until it’s too late. Alvarez, drawing from her experiences in Latin America, cautions Americans: “We always say, no, no, no, this is not going to happen here — until it does.” This message resonates deeply in today’s political climate, where Democrats are increasingly pushing socialist agendas that threaten the very foundations of American freedom. From expansive government control over the economy to stifling regulations on personal liberties, the Democratic Party’s shift toward socialism isn’t just misguided—it’s destructive.  Continued below this next clip
Socialism is the gateway drug to communism. For my parents and grandparents, socialism a threat overseas. Unfortunately for my Gen-Z peers, it’s now knocking on the front doors of City Hall. We must not stop the threat of socialism from being let in.

Stossel’s post serves as a timely jump-off point to examine how Democrats’ flirtation with socialism erodes freedom. Alvarez’s insights from regions plagued by socialist experiments like Venezuela and Cuba echo historical truths: socialism promises equality but delivers poverty, oppression, and the erosion of individual rights. In the U.S., Democrats like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez champion policies that mirror these failed systems, such as the Green New Deal and Medicare for All, which would balloon government power at the expense of personal choice and economic vitality. Consider the economic destruction wrought by socialist-leaning policies. As Justin Haskins points out in his Fox News op-ed, Sanders and AOC seek a “disastrous socialist revolution” that would devastate America through massive tax hikes and centralized control.  Continued below this next fast clip by President Reagan
“Capitalism lifts people up. Socialism holds them down.”

These ideas aren’t new; they’re rooted in the same collectivist mindset that has tanked economies worldwide. Haskins warns that such policies would crush innovation and prosperity, forcing Americans into dependency on the state. Similarly, Ben Shapiro debunks leftist myths about economics, arguing that socialism is “ineffective, destructive and stunting to the human spirit.” He emphasizes that free markets, not government mandates, are the true engines of growth, yet Democrats persist in promoting wealth redistribution that punishes success and rewards inefficiency. The Heritage Foundation has long documented the harmful effects of excessive government spending, a hallmark of socialist policies. In one analysis, they explain how government subsidies encourage “destructive choices” by distorting markets and fostering dependency.

Under Democratic leadership, programs like Biden’s Build Back Better agenda exemplify this, exacerbating inflation and driving up costs for everyday Americans. This isn’t mere policy disagreement—it’s a systematic assault on economic freedom. When the government controls more of the economy, individuals lose the ability to make their own decisions, leading to stagnation and decline. As National Review notes, free enterprise is the basis of prosperity, yet many conservatives see modern capitalism under attack from plutocratic and destructive forces pushed by the left. Beyond economics, Democrats’ socialism threatens personal freedoms. Laura Ingraham on Fox News blasts the party’s “obsession with destructive change,” pointing to radical policies that undermine traditional values and institutions. This includes efforts to expand the welfare state, which, as Kay Coles James argues, expands government control and limits freedom at every turn.  Continued below this next clip

I saw Jamaica fall to socialism. Families lost their land, businesses shuttered, and violence took over. Then I returned to America where freedom is king. That’s why I love this country, and why I’ll always fight to protect it.

James, a conservative leader, warns that the left’s agenda has “wrought destruction on nations for generations,” turning self-reliant citizens into wards of the state. In the realm of free speech and cultural norms, the Federalist highlights how erasing history is “straight from the socialist playbook,” as seen in movements to topple statues and rewrite narratives. Democrats’ support for such actions fosters an environment where dissent is silenced, echoing authoritarian regimes. Look at recent examples in Democratic strongholds. In New York City, voters elected a socialist mayor, Zohran Mamdani, whose policies are lambasted as destructive to business and neighborhoods. Townhall columnist John Stossel himself critiques this “socialist mayor,” explaining how such leadership mocks fears of socialism while implementing ideas that stifle growth. Mamdani’s victory, as detailed in Daily Wire coverage, represents New Yorkers embracing their own destruction through anti-American impulses that haven’t been defeated.

This isn’t isolated; Breitbart reports on how Democrats want a “Maoist” cultural destruction, not just redistribution, aiming to dismantle the Constitution and American freedom. The Biden-Harris administration provides a clear case study. Their policies, from border chaos to green energy mandates, are blamed for environmental and economic destruction. As the Federalist argues, it’s the new authoritarian left destroying norms, not conservatives. National Review’s coverage of uniting the right labels the Democratic Party as “morally bankrupt, politically tyrannical, economically destructive,” setting a course that harms the nation. Even in foreign policy, Heritage notes how leftist bureaucrats enact destructive policies through the deep state, maintaining an iron grip on power. Socialism’s allure to Democrats stems from a desire for control, but history shows it leads to tyranny. Johan Norberg, in an exclusive Daily Wire interview, details the destructive nature of socialism, stripping away freedoms in the name of equality.  Continued below this next clip

I’ll never understand Latinos that flee Socialism and come to the United States to vote Democrat.” “Why are you repeating the same story that destroyed your countries?” “Nothing in this world is ever free. It’s an exchange for power and control.”

Fox News outlines five things Sanders doesn’t want you to know about socialism, including its track record of oppression and economic failure. Breitbart’s Charles Hurt exposes how Democrats, unable to sell their agenda, seek to destroy institutions like the Supreme Court. Townhall’s Wayne Allyn Root describes the Democratic Party’s behavior as “political suicide,” siding with destructive elements that undermine freedom. Jonathan Emord warns that under leftist “transformational change,” we become the enemy, with destruction of fossil fuels and establishment of a corporatist state. Allen West critiques “equity” as equality of outcomes, erasing individual identity and proving destructive. The Federalist’s analysis of red states saving the republic from self-destruction urges conservatives to counter this tide. As National Review’s David Horowitz journey from left to right illustrates, recognizing socialism’s dangers is crucial.

Breitbart’s review of Mark Levin’s “Plunder and Deceit” calls for fighting these destructive causes. In conclusion, Democrats’ socialism isn’t progressive—it’s regressive, leading to the loss of freedoms Americans hold dear. Stossel’s post with Alvarez reminds us: ignore the warnings at our peril. To preserve liberty, we must reject this path and embrace free-market principles that built this nation.
