Recently, a subset of non-classical monocytes has been shown to harbor S2 spike protein in patients with PVS18. Further, biodistribution studies on mRNA–LNP platforms in animal models indicate its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, and the local S2 expression results in neurocognitive symptoms. Vaccine-induced VAIDS immune responses are triggering the stimulation of autoreactive lymphocytes.
