The World’s Fastest E-Bike: Revolutionizing Speed with a Hole in the Middle

Article below this top clip 🛑

Engineers literally cut a tunnel through the middle of the WMC 250 EV to see what would happen; it turns out it smokes even the Suzuki Hayabusa and Kawasaki H2R. That hole slashes air resistance by 70%, keeps the bike glued to the road, and lets it rocket to 400 km/h with just 135 horsepower. Yes, a bike with a giant hole in it just bullied high-speed trains.

The World’s Fastest E-Bike: Revolutionizing Speed with a Hole in the Middle

In a viral X post that’s captivating tech enthusiasts and speed demons alike, Mario Nawfal showcased what he dubbed the “world’s fastest e-bike,” the WMC250EV. The video, reposted from@kuwaitbiker
, depicts a sleek white motorcycle blasting down a runway, its rider hunched in an aerodynamic pose. What sets this machine apart isn’t just its blistering pace but its bizarre design: a massive tunnel carved straight through its center. This isn’t a gimmick—it’s a groundbreaking engineering feat that slashes air resistance by up to 70%, allowing the bike to theoretically hit speeds over 400 km/h (about 250 mph) with remarkably modest power. As electric vehicles push boundaries, the WMC250EV stands as a testament to how innovative aerodynamics can redefine two-wheeled performance. Developed by White Motorcycle Concepts (WMC), a UK-based engineering firm founded by former Formula 1 engineer Rob White, the WMC250EV is more than a speed machine—it’s a prototype aimed at shattering land speed records for electric motorcycles. Unveiled in 2021, the bike incorporates WMC’s patented “V-Air” technology, a central duct that channels airflow through the vehicle rather than around it. This reduces frontal drag by 69%, according to the company, while also improving stability by balancing downforce on both wheels.
Traditional motorcycles battle wind like a brick wall; the WMC250EV slices through it like a knife. The result? A bike that can achieve high speeds with less energy, doubling the range of comparable electric models on a single charge. The specs are as impressive as the design. Powered by dual electric motors—one 30 kW unit driving the rear wheel and two 20 kW hub motors in the front for all-wheel drive—the WMC250EV produces around 100 kW (134 horsepower) in its testing configuration. That’s far less than gas-guzzling superbikes like the Suzuki Hayabusa (around 190 hp) or Kawasaki Ninja H2R (over 300 hp), yet the e-bike outperforms them in straight-line speed thanks to its aero efficiency. In the viral video, narrated with dramatic flair, the bike is shown accelerating smoothly on a runway, its front wheel staying planted even at high velocities—a common issue for powerful motorcycles.

The footage compares it favorably to MotoGP racers and high-speed trains, emphasizing how the duct prevents wheelies and enhances grip. Testing has been rigorous. In 2021, the prototype completed its first shakedown runs at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in the UK, proving stable and on track for record attempts. WMC’s goal was to exceed 250 mph, surpassing the then-current electric motorcycle record. While the Voxan Wattman, powered by a Mercedes EQ Formula E motor, hit 283 mph in 2021, the WMC250EV focuses on efficiency rather than brute force. By 2024, the project was seeking additional funding for a full record run, incorporating advanced batteries and a higher-voltage powertrain. As of 2025, the bike hasn’t officially claimed the title, but its potential is undeniable, with simulations predicting over 250 mph. Beyond speed, the WMC250EV highlights sustainable mobility. Electric motorcycles are gaining traction for their zero emissions and low operating costs, but range anxiety and charging times remain hurdles. WMC’s duct tech addresses this by minimizing energy loss to drag, potentially extending range to 200 miles or more.

The bike’s carbon-fiber construction keeps weight down, and its hybrid all-wheel-drive system improves traction, making it safer for high-speed pursuits. Rob White, drawing from his F1 experience with teams like Renault and Cosworth, envisions this as a blueprint for future vehicles, including scooters and commuter bikes. Comparisons to other fast e-bikes underscore the WMC250EV’s uniqueness. The Voxan Wattman, for instance, relies on massive power (over 200 kW) and lightweight construction to achieve its records, but it’s a streamliner built purely for the salt flats. Consumer models like the Lightning LS-218 top out at around 218 mph but lack the aero innovation. The WMC250EV’s hole-in-the-middle approach has even been applied to a modified Zero SR/S, boosting efficiency by 17% in wind tunnel tests. It’s not just about going fast—it’s about going far on less energy. So, where can you buy one? Unfortunately, the WMC250EV itself isn’t available for purchase. As a land-speed prototype, it’s a one-off demonstrator, not a production model.
White Motorcycle Concepts focuses on innovation rather than mass sales, though they’ve expressed interest in licensing the V-Air tech to manufacturers. For those eager to experience similar technology, WMC offers the WMC300AE, a hybrid three-wheeled scooter that incorporates the duct design for improved efficiency and speed. Priced around £9,999 (about $12,500 USD), it’s road-legal in the UK and available through select dealers. Interested buyers can contact WMC directly via their website for inquiries or custom projects. The implications extend beyond racing. As governments push for greener transport, e-bikes like this could inspire more efficient urban mobility. Imagine commuter scooters with extended ranges or delivery vehicles that zip through traffic without guzzling fuel. Challenges remain, including battery tech and infrastructure, but the WMC250EV proves that bold ideas—like punching a hole through a bike—can accelerate progress. In the X post, Nawfal’s caption captures the excitement: a bike “missing a chunk” that’s faster than icons like the Hayabusa.

While it hasn’t dethroned all records yet, its design philosophy is influencing the industry. As WMC partners with firms like Pininfarina for future models, expect more hole-y innovations. For now, the WMC250EV remains a thrilling glimpse into the future of speed—electric, efficient, and utterly unconventional.
