Examples include a $2 billion bond in Denton County’s First Ranch MUD passed by two voters, a $1.3 billion in Collin County MUD #11 by one voter, and $1.5 billion in Denton County MUD #11 by another single voter—totaling $4.8 billion decided by four individuals.

This isn’t democracy; it’s a rigged game where developers and special interests quietly loot taxpayer wallets while hardworking Americans are left paying skyrocketing property taxes.MUDs, these shadowy special purpose districts, are designed to fund infrastructure like water and sewer systems in new developments. But in practice, they serve as slush funds for cronies. Formed on undeveloped land, MUD elections often occur before residents move in, allowing landowners—frequently the developers themselves—to vote in obscurity. The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s May 2024 Bond Election Report lays bare the scam: SPDs, including MUDs, proposed $16.1 billion in bonds, approving nearly all with repayment costs hitting $33.3 billion including interest.
