Democrats and celebrities raised $50m for the victims of the Los Angeles fires. But where did that money actually go? Not to the victims but rather nonprofits and into the pockets of high-salary executives and staff teams.
The Great FireAid Heist: How Democrats Diverted Millions from Wildfire Victims to Their Crony Non-Profits
In the wake of devastating wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles earlier this year, a star-studded benefit concert called FireAid promised hope and relief. Organized by Hollywood elites and backed by prominent Democrats, the event featured performers like Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, and Stevie Wonder, raising an eye-popping $100 million to aid victims of the Palisades and Eaton fires. These blazes destroyed over 2,000 homes and businesses, killed 30 people, and displaced thousands in communities like Pacific Palisades and Altadena. But as investigative reporting from conservative outlets reveals, much of this money never reached the desperate families who lost everything.
Instead, it was funneled into a web of non-profits—many with deep ties to Democratic politics and executives pocketing six-figure salaries—effectively stealing from the American people who donated in good faith. The scandal came to light through the efforts of journalist Sue Pascoe, editor of Circling the News, who herself lost her home in the fires. In a bombshell interview on Fox 11’s “Following the FireAid Money” segment, Pascoe detailed her months-long quest to track the funds. She started with a simple reader inquiry: “I’ve never seen any FireAid money. How do I apply?” What followed was a frustrating wall of silence from the Annenberg Foundation, the entity overseeing the distribution. After repeated emails and calls, Pascoe learned the shocking truth: victims couldn’t apply directly. The money—$75 million disbursed so far—was going exclusively to non-profits, with no transparency on amounts per organization or how it was being spent.

Pascoe’s findings, amplified by conservative media, paint a picture of systemic corruption. The Annenberg Foundation, long associated with liberal causes despite its founder’s Republican roots, distributed the initial $50 million to about 120 non-profits. Many had little direct connection to fire relief. One cleaned preschool bathrooms; others focused on homeless services already funded by Los Angeles taxpayers. Pascoe contacted mobile home park residents—hard-hit low-income victims—and found they’d received nothing from the designated non-profit. “This FireAid money is not helping the people,” Pascoe told Fox. “It’s helping non-profits, many of which have executives who are getting a six-figure salary.”
But the real outrage lies in the political slush fund aspect. Breitbart News exposed how portions of the money flowed to overtly political groups like the California Native Vote Project (CNVP). This “nonpartisan” organization, which boasts of removing Christopher Columbus statues and standing with undocumented immigrants against ICE enforcement, received funds for “financial assistance for displaced and affected Native families.” Yet census data shows only 16 Native Americans lived in Pacific Palisades and 46 in Altadena—hardly justifying the allocation amid widespread suffering. CNVP’s mission is voter mobilization, often aligning with progressive Democratic causes, raising questions about whether donor dollars are funding electioneering rather than rebuilding lives.
Other recipients include the Instituto de Educación Popular del Sur de California (IDEPSCA), focused on organizing immigrants, and the California Volunteers Fund, initially misreported as tied to Governor Gavin Newsom’s office (a correction clarified it’s independent, but the optics fueled suspicion given Newsom’s Democratic administration). Change Reaction, another grantee, did provide some direct household relief, but it’s the exception proving the rule. These groups, often run by Democratic allies, exemplify how FireAid became a vehicle for cronyism. High-salary executives at these non-profits—earning well into six figures—benefit while victims scrape by on insurance delays and FEMA scraps. How much was effectively “stolen”? Conservative estimates peg the total diverted at $75 million—the amount already handed out—with the full $100 million at risk. Direct theft might be hard to prove without audits, but the misuse is blatant: instead of cutting checks to families for housing, food, or rebuilding, funds padded non-profit budgets and political agendas. In Pascoe’s words, “The money is not going to victims.” This echoes broader Democratic scandals, like FEMA funds allegedly redirected to migrants under Biden, leaving American disaster victims in the lurch.
The ties to Democrats are undeniable. The concert was championed by liberal celebrities and organized under California’s blue leadership. Governor Newsom, facing criticism for fire mismanagement—including dry hydrants and poor forest policies—has defended his response with a “fact-check” site linking to Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue. This scandal fits a pattern: Democrats raise money on compassion, then siphon it to allies. As Breitbart noted, FireAid funds went to groups with “radical political ideology,” turning charity into a partisan tool.
Victims’ stories underscore the human cost. Pascoe, well-connected in her community, knows no one who’s received aid. Donors from the Midwest, moved by the tragedy, gave sacrificially—$20 here, $50 there—only to see it vanish. Attorney General Rob Bonta, a Democrat, has been contacted but offered no immediate action. This isn’t just inefficiency; it’s theft by proxy. Conservatives have long warned about non-profit grifts under Democratic control, where taxpayer or donor dollars fund lavish lifestyles and political machines. FireAid proves it: $75 million “stolen” from the people, enriching Democrat-run entities while families suffer. An independent audit is urgently needed, and donors should demand refunds. Until then, this stands as a cautionary tale—when Democrats promise relief, follow the money.

- This is just another example of the corruption surrounding L.A.and the Fire Victims. Do the performers involved understand that the Fire Victims have not received any of the $100 million they helped raised…do they care? This is just one more incident that needs investigation…any investigative reporters left in L.A.? There were some 12,000 victims, left homeless that lost everything. – LTforreal
- This corruption cannot be stopped in Blue states like California. Not without Federal intervention to force free and fair elections. We would not care if the people of California voted for this lunacy. They can destroy their own state, we Americans believe. but they are NOT voting for this. Votes are controlled by a Marxist cabal and voter id is actually outlawed in Cali – they can always find more votes. For the Republican to win, they would have to get 80% of the vote. It’s time for Trump to end this political

Re Kevin Kiley’s Tweet with the above doc
We’ve learned that of the $100 million raised at the celebrity “Fire Aid” concert, none actually went to LA fire victims. Instead the money went to nonprofits, many that have nothing to do with fire relief. I’ve asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to open an investigation.
