- In my state, the DMV used to be run by private business’s. Then one year the state took over and the quality has gone to shit. When you took you car to the inspection center, you knew you were going to fail. The first trip was to find out what’s wrong with your car. The 2nd trip you might pass. Now they just plug in a machine and check emissions. You can have a busted headlight, cracked windshield, a check engine light and they dont care. Anytime the government steps in, it’s usually lowest bidder.
- The TSA stopped me going through the metal detector once and wanded me. They ended up spending over a minute trying to figure out what was going on. I found a few pennies in one of my pockets, and I then passed the scan. When I got to my destination, I discovered two rounds of 9mm in one of my other pockets.
- Yeah, TSA has sucked from day one. A few years ago, my “extended” family (Mother-in-law, daughter, wife, sister-in-law, a nephew, a couple of friends) flew to San Diego to actually watch my other nephew graduate from training to be an actual Marine. On the flight out of town, my daughter was standing with us, but apparently in another “roped off” lane. A TSA agent came up and threatened to arrest her. TSA should be IMMEDIATELY dissolved. They are usually not only incompetent, they are generally assholes.
- I was chastised by HR at a former job when I said to some co-workers while waiting at an airport, that I found it ironic that the TSA would hire people from the very group that the TSA was formed to “protect” the US from.
- So, TSA employees rotate through all the positions. Everyone gets the same xray training. And when I got hired, I got sent off to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco GA for two weeks that focused on bag searches, testing liquids, how to pat down with the specific advisements. I’ve caught a few knives, at least two of those concealable credit card knives, and I caught a firearm. But, I’ve had to dump more water and old peoples tooth paste than actually finding legitimate threats. I think a private company would fare better.
- Just recently I went to La for a funeral/vacation, going through TSA for my flight back home, I had a blister pack just an individual Imodium (just in case) in one of the multi pockets on a pair of shorts it dinged the xray, I removed everything the Agent patted me down, he eventually let me through, I found it while standing waiting on my flight
- Yes! Used to work in an airport and have seen how useless TSA is at security, their measures are mostly for show to make people “feel safe”. They weren’t even the ones who checked the planes for contraband, cabin cleaners like me did (without any training on the subject). TSA would only act if someone else saw something suspicious, like if one of us already accidentally stabbed ourselves with a used needle while cleaning behind the seats (this happened so often). One time I even found a makshift meth lab setup in a plane’s bathroom (why else would a sink be filled with used syringes, empty bottles of pain pills, a hotplate, and a frying pan?). We’d also often find knives that people were apparently able to sneak onto the planes.
