- Nikki Haley won her first presidential primary on Sunday, defeating Donald Trump in the Washington, D.C. Republican primary.
- The D.C. primary took place over the weekend in a downtown hotel near the city’s lobbying hub, with Haley securing nearly 63% of the vote. (1,300 votes lol)
- Haley’s victory in D.C. followed losses to Trump in Missouri and Idaho caucuses and a Michigan Republican convention on Saturday.
- Trump is favored in the GOP nomination, expected to win primaries across 16 Super Tuesday states.
- The GOP electorate in D.C., where Republicans are just 5% of registered voters, differs significantly from the conservative base in most of the country.
- Patrick Mara, chair of the D.C. Republican Party, highlighted the sophisticated (as in RINO) nature of the D.C. GOP electorate, engaged with political podcasts and newsletters.
- Dan Schuberth, a D.C. trade association leader and Haley supporter, described D.C. Republicans as a unique electorate, many of whom know people working on the campaigns. In other words – they are RINOS which are really Deep State Democrats)
- The primary voting occurred over three days at the Madison Hotel, with Haley holding a campaign rally there.
- Dana Milbank, a Washington Post columnist, changed his registration to Republican recently to participate in the primary as part of an experiment. (See what I mean! – RINOS are Democrats, they can switch at will)
- The D.C. GOP is seen as more moderate (RINO) and rational (As in they want the destruction of the United States and invasion across the southern border) compared to the broader Republican base, with local Republicans considering themselves a “unicorn breed” within the party.
