US F-16 Fighter Jet Crashes Off South Korea, Pilot Is Safe

According to the Korea Coast Guard, as reported by AFP, the fighter jet crashed near Mokdeok Island, located off the west coast of South Korea.
This incident marks the third crash involving an American F-16 fighter jet in South Korea since May 2023.
A previous incident in December involved a US F-16 fighter jet crashing during a routine training exercise due to an in-flight emergency, with the pilot being successfully rescued.
Another crash occurred in May of the previous year when a US F-16 jet went down during a training exercise in a farming area south of Seoul, resulting in the safe ejection of the pilot without additional casualties.
The United States maintains a significant military presence in South Korea, with approximately 28,500 troops stationed in the country as a security measure against potential threats from North Korea.
In a related note, the US military in Japan announced the grounding of its V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft fleet following a fatal accident that resulted in the deaths of eight US airmen.
