A Slice of History: Attempting the World’s Largest Pizza at the Los Angeles Convention Center
When it comes to food, size matters. That’s why the popular pizza chain recently made a splash with their announcement that their Big New Yorker Pizza would be making a return after 25 years. But that wasn’t all. To mark the occasion, they decided to attempt an ambitious project—to break the Guinness world record for the largest pizza with a 14,001-square-foot (3,809 square meters) pie! Keep reading to learn more about how they created this epic dish and what it took to make history in downtown Los Angeles.
The Preparation Process
To complete this massive task, workers first had to lay down layers of dough before tomato sauce was applied and then toppings added on top. Once everything was set up, enormous heat lamps were used to cook the pizza—which was so large that it needed to be cut into 68,000 slices! In total, it took 60 employees from 10 different pizzerias over 48 hours to complete the entire project from start to finish.

The Ingredients Used
One of the most interesting aspects of this endeavor is just how much food was required for such a large undertaking. To make sure no ingredient was wasted, there were 895 pounds of cheese and 800 pounds of flour used for this project! Additionally, 1,500 pounds of tomatoes and 540 gallons of vegetable oil were also necessary in order for this amazing feat to be accomplished.
Breaking Records
In addition to creating quite a stir among local foodies and fans alike, this project achieved its original goal—with flying colors! After being certified by Guinness World Records officials on site at the Los Angeles Convention Center on August 3rd 2019, this pizza officially became recognized as the world’s largest ever made! It even earned itself a place in history as well as its own plaque commemorating its success.
Who says you can’t make history while eating your favorite slice? This historic attempt proves that anything is possible when you put your mind to it! With 895 pounds of cheese and 800 pounds of flour used alone for this incredible project—it certainly took an abundance of resources and hard work from 10 different pizzerias to get it done but in the end it was all worth it. From now on whenever someone orders pizza at the Los Angeles Convention Center they can remember that once upon a time there was an epic attempt here at breaking records with one delicious meal!
