A new tank for the United States – FINALLY! AbramsX Technology Demonstrator on the Move –

Transformational technology. The Abrams X is a main battle tank for the next generation, featuring reduced weight for improved mobility and transportability and delivering the same tactical range as the M1A2 Abrams with 50% less fuel consumption.

The AbramsX’s hybrid power pack supports the U.S. Army’s climate and electrification strategies, enhances silent watch capability and even allows for some silent mobility. With a reduced crew size and AI-enabled lethality, survivability, mobility, manned/unmanned teaming (MUM-T) and autonomous capabilities, AbramsX can be a key node in lethal battlefield networks and serve as a bridge from Abrams SEPv3 and SEPv4 to a future tank.

Finally! After 40 Years US Introduced Next Generation Tank It became known that in the AbramsX the main caliber will remain the same – the usual 120 mm. But the gun will be changed. Judging by the video, its barrel is similar to the one used in the XM-360 cannon. Previously, it was tested for an armored vehicle XM-1202 under the now closed program FCS – combat systems of the future. The 120mm XM-360 cannon is created using new high-strength gun steel, light alloys, titanium, aluminum, and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. Compared to the M1 Abrams cannon weighing more than 2,500 pounds, the XM-360 cannon is 800 pounds lighter and weighs about 1,700 pounds.

Defense firm General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) will unveil its AbramsX MBT (Main Battle Tank) technology demonstrator at AUSA 2022, the United States Army Association defense exhibition taking place in Washington D.C. from 10 to 12 October. This next generation (Next-Gen) main battle tank, in addition to getting a redesigned appearance, has also been reduced in weight compared to the previous generation Abrams tank, estimated at 55-60 tons compared to the current model’s 73 tons. This weight reduction improves mobility and payload capability, and provides the same tactical range as the M1A2 Abrams version but with 50 percent less fuel consumption. The AbramsX will be supported by an electric-diesel hybrid power pack for reduced noise levels so it can move quietly. The AbramsX crew has been reduced to just three and is equipped with AI (artificial intelligence) technology, then manned/unmanned teams (MUM-T) and autonomous systems. As a beater, the AbramsX can be armed with the new XM360 120 mm developed by the United States Army Research, Development and Engineering Center. The main cannon can fire new ammunition types MRM (Mid-Range Munitions), AMP (Advanced Multi-Purpose), and AKE (Advanced Kinetic Energy). The roof of the turret is also equipped with an RCWS armed with a 30 mm automatic cannon and a coaxial machine gun mounted on the right side. The AbramsX is also equipped with a new sight and fire control system using a panoramic vision system for commanders and gunners. The AbramsX will be equipped with a new protective package fitted around the hull and turret. There are two hatches at the front of the hull. AbramsX presence can be a key node in the lethal battlefield network and serve as a bridge from Abrams SEPv3 and SEPv4 for future tanks. At AUSA 2022, in addition to the AbramsX, GDLS will also launch the TRX Breacher armored support robot, the StrykerX hybrid electric-diesel armored vehicle and the Striker Leoni radio attack detection vehicle.
