• There’s a greater good here than just not letting cheap crap flood the market: TEMU and SHEIN offered items in the “too good to be true” category because , as I understand it, they were using the platform to gain actionable information on US buyers.

• I have made some ramblings on a far more substantial issue – Counterfeit postage. With the end of E Pack, many sellers simply switched to outright counterfeit postage. I ran factories that produced consumer goods and who also did some 3pl for other companies. We where approached on the regular with 100% counterfeit postage. Even the USPS couldn’t tell if it was counterfeit Items that would normally cost us $8 to ship could be shipped for $1, items that would cost $20 to ship could be shipped for $2. But only if we purchased shipping from certain shipping platforms. Now you may think, oh they are just getting a fantastic deal – no, no they are not. Based on my previous career I had access to the NDA rate charts from the USPS – Even if I guaranteed AMAZON level volume you cannot get this type of a discount. I’m now retired, but I keep up on this issue – this is 100% still going on, in a massive scale. I also want to state, Shein and Temu are NOT involved in the counterfeit postage directly. They are just platforms, and they just like amazon, ebay, etc, etc, offer there sellers access to a negotiated shipping rate which is inline with other platforms. It is unscrupulous sellers or morons who actually believe you can ship a small microwave anywhere in the US for $2. This , this is the #1 issue facing small to mid size manufactures in the US. If I made toasters, the best shipping I could get might be $6 . If I was a small seller my rate could be $10. If I used counterfeit labels my shipping would be $1. You may say, oh that’s only a $5 difference – yep, and if you saw 2 toasters that appeared similar and one was $30 and the other was $35 which would you buy ? People sort there ecom listings by price low to high -and you always click the LOWER priced version. The USPS is 100% aware of this issue – however they DO NOT have the technology in place to detect fraud within there automated system. There system assumes every label is legit. You have to HAND CHECK an item thru 3 screens to figure out if it is a counterfeit – and even then sometimes you can figure it out. FEDEX and UPS has the same issue a decade ago, they fixed the issue. The USPS should 100% suspend small parcel shipments until they figure out how to stop this. – John M
