ABC recently settled with Trump for $15 million plus $1 million in legal fees over George Stephanopoulos defaming him. The precedent has been set. AOC could be in very serious legal and financial trouble if Trump decides to pursue legal action. Although he may see AOC as so insignificant that he doesn’t bother, yet.

AOC’s reckless defamation is a perfect example of performative politics. ABC already paid $15M for falsely labeling him a rapist—a lie the jury explicitly rejected. If libel and slander law was returned to the original standard (knowingly stating falsehoods to a 3rd party)….without additional “public figure” requirement of “actual malice,” it would do a great deal to calm public discourse.
