In a passionate speech, Schweikert emphasized the difficulty of cutting federal spending and that current plans to go after certain programs that are oft discussed by members of his party aren’t going to change the financial landscape as much as promised. “If you get rid of the Department of Education salaries … you just covered nine hours of borrowing,” he said. He also added that eliminating foreign aid would only cover a week of borrowing. “Am I starting to make a point on the scale of what we have to actually tell the truth and deal with,” he asked. This is against the landscape that President Donald Trump has centered federal spending in the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, led by Elon Musk.
- This is an incredibly dumb point. Essentially he’s saying “who cares” because our budget is so big. However, to everyone who works hard to pay taxes and they see this level of waste, it’s disgusting. Trying to justify sloppy spending because our bank account is so big is sad.
- And they want everyone to spend money changing the words Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America. How much will that cost map makers, flight route revamps, airlines, textbook writers, discussing with international cohorts, online resources, AI replacing the term, etc?
- The United States Department of Education’s (ED) annual budget for 2024 is $238 billion.
- I mean, how retarded do you Democrats want to look and for how long? We don’t give a shit what you say we just found out the Democrat party is a bunch of money laundering demonic fucking freaks spending our money like no big deal while the rest of us are working our ass off
- Tax expenditures are $2 trillion PER YEAR, of which the top 1% gets about $350 billion and the next 19% gets $650 billion. Deductions, exemptions, preferential rates…get rid of them for the top 20% and the deficit is sustainable indefinitely.
- Sounds like he isn’t speaking out against cutting waste, fraud, and abuse but saying current efforts don’t go far enough. Why is PBS deliberately mischaracterizing his point? Is PBS anything more than DNC propaganda?
